Job Opening Summary

 

Coordinates, directs, plans and supervises the department inpatient and outpatient nutrition activities. Monitors patient food quality and compliance. Represents FNS on hospital-wide clinical committees focused on patient care coordination and improvement. Coordinates communications related to nutrition care within the ShandsHealthcare System.

Responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling the performance of the clinical registered dietitians providing clinical dietetic services to hospitalized and clinic patients. Supervises Enteral Nutrition Support Technicians who are responsible for mixing tube feedings and supplement distribution for all hospitalized patients. Supervises Dietetic Technicians who are responsible for screening nutritionally at-risk patient populations and making referrals to appropriate care providers. Ensures compliance with local, state, federal and other regulatory agencies. Maintains budget, supports cost-containment process and maximizes revenue. Participates in clinical quality assessment and improvement (QAI) process and special projects necessary for the provision of nutrition services to patients. Provides and documents clinical dietetic services, including nutrition assessment and medical nutrition therapy PRN. Evaluates progress toward therapeutic goals and follows through with discharge planning. Participates in menu planning and clinical aspects associated with menu modification. Responsible for education and implementation associated with nutrition-related information systems. Coordinates nutritional care with other patient care services. Provides psychosocial counseling for individuals, families and groups with emphasis on nutrition intervention and lifestyle management. Develops nutrition educational and resource materials, and serves as coordinator and instructor for dietetic students rotations within the clinical setting. Serves on affiliated site advisory boards. Coordinates volunteers activities for the department.
 

Job Opening Qualifications

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in clinical dietetics. Prefer Master's degree (Nutrition).
  • Completion of an American Dietetic Association (ADA)-approved dietetic program.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in dietetics practice is required.
  • Prefer a minimum of two years of hospital supervisory experience.
  • Has knowledge of departmental and hospital organization, marketing, foodservice, product and performance management and coordination of nutrition care.
  • Must be familiar with age-specific parameters (from neonate to geriatric).
  • Must possess communication skills to develop cooperative efforts and resolve differences of opinion.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of nutrition assessment and nutrient requirements of various patient populations, in addition to current theory and practices of dietetics and therapeutic nutrition and disease (which may include gastrointestinal disorders, oncology, intensive care, diabetes, etc.).
  • Must be familiar with TPN and tubefeedings for neonatal to geriatric patients.
  • Must maintain CPR certification.
  • Needs strong communication skills and the ability to positively interact with professional and non-professional health science center personnel.
  • Must be able to participate as a team member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Computer use.


Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "non-frequent driver."

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile
a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Must have passed the ADA registration exam.
  • Must be a state of Florida-licensed dietitian/nutritionist or be eligible for same.
  • Prefer CNSD, CPS, CDE, etc., certifications.
  • Valid driver's license and current automobile insurance certification required.

Midpoint Pay Rate - Hourly: $43.96
