Job Opening Summary

Within UF Health Communications, the Director of Strategic Communications reports to the Associate Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs to serve the University of Florida Health academic health center. The Director is responsible for the proactive and strategic direction of internal and corporate communications. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading internal communications program development to promote an understanding of organizational strategic priorities and support efforts to foster a patient-focused, service-oriented culture that "lives the brand" and embraces diversity.
  • Leading the development and implementation of comprehensive strategic communications plans and tools for diverse academic and corporate clients.
  • Taking a lead role to identify, evaluate, develop and implement the organization's approach and response to issues management and crisis communications.
  • Providing strategic communications counsel to executive and business unit leaders to support open, honest, timely, relevant and transparent communications.
  • Developing the centralized emergency communications response plan and serving as the primary System PIO in Incident Command.

Job Opening Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, plus a master's degree or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, journalism or related field.
  • Minimum of ten years of management experience overseeing complex strategic communications programs and teams in a corporate or academic setting; higher education and/or health care experience preferred.
  • Must possess outstanding organizational and strategic communications planning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and ability to build strong, collaborative relationships and promote cross-functional teamwork across a diverse organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead highly productive work groups.
  • Proven track record of solving problems and managing issues and crisis communications.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:

  • Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "non-frequent driver."

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.

Minimum Pay Rate - Hourly: $45.26
Midpoint Pay Rate - Hourly: $61.97
