Job Opening Summary

The neo/peds FRT is responsible for assessing, monitoring, planning, intervening and evaluating outcomes for patients being transported in the neonatal and pediatric patient populations (up to five years of age). The N/P FRT coordinates care with the N/P FRN to deliver comprehensive care to neonatal and pediatric patients. Documentation of that process will be recorded in the patient’s medical record.

Transport vehicles may include helicopters, fixed winged aircrafts and ground ambulances. The N/P FRT must be able to function autonomously, utilizing medical protocols and advanced skills under the direction of the medical director. The N/P FRT must have effective communication skills and be able to work positively in high-stress environments with patients, peers, families and other internal/external personnel. The N/P FRT functions as a resource for other flight team members by sharing skills and clinical knowledge. The N/P FRT must have excellent interpersonal skills, as she/he is instrumental in providing community outreach and education. The N/P FRT must comply with height/weight restrictions, as set by policy, and be able to successfully egress the helicopter and/or fixed winged aircraft in accordance with emergency procedures.

The N/P FRT is responsible for carrying out the mission and goals of Shands HealthCare/ShandsCair, assuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.

Job Opening Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • The flight respiratory therapist must have an active state of Florida license as a registered respiratory therapist.
  • Minimum of 2,000 hours of Level III or Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) registered respiratory therapist experience.
  • Must have American Heart Association (AHA) neonatal resuscitation program (NRP) certification.
  • PALS certification.
  • Must complete a neonatal transport stabilization program within one year of hire and have written approval from the medical director.
  • Must accompany a minimum of six neonatal transports prior to staffing a neonatal transport as the only RT in attendance.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:

  • Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "non-frequent driver."


  • Licensed as registered respiratory therapist in the state of Florida.

Minimum Pay Rate - Hourly: $25.48
Midpoint Pay Rate - Hourly: $35.54
