Job Opening Summary

Provides core-level facility services to all UF Health Shands facilities by providing consultation, problem solving, budget review, strategic direction and leadership. Ensures appropriate direction, planning, monitoring and quality standards are set and adhered to. Ensures strategic initiatives are developed in accordance with UF Health Shands goals and objectives through the development and engagement of internal teams and consultants.

Subordinate responsibilities include all facility project development, real estate development, construction and planning activities; management of the comprehensive safety and security programs for UF Health Shands and Core Services; and the operation and planning of the Core Service transportation program.

The Vice President of Facilities provides or supervises the following professional services: architecture, long- and short-range planning, space planning, real estate development and property management.

Directs and manages the activities of the departments of Facilities Development, Construction, Facility Operations, Safety, Security and Transportation. Responsibilities include management of staff and budgets; development of goals, policies and procedures; implementation of work activities; and control of the work environment.

Job Opening Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BS in engineering or architecture.
  • Professional license preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years' experience in hospital design, construction and maintenance operations.
  • Knowledge of space planning, health care construction, commercial construction, maintenance operations, energy, organizational security and safety programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of codes and standards applicable to health care and business occupancies.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in dealing with regulatory agencies, especially Florida agencies.
  • The job requires the ability to provide broad vision and analytical skills to complex and comprehensive problems.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills are required.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:

  • Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "frequent driver."

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or University of Florida Health automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.
