Job Opening Summary

This position is responsible for the effective daily coordination and monitoring of patient transportation services in a hospital environment through timely and accurate dispatch, management of customer transportation requests and efficient assignments of transport personnel utilizing company applications. In addition, this position will ensure positive patient, client and transporter satisfaction by providing excellent customer service on the floor or on the phone.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the activity of the transport function and transporters, ensuring timely completion of tasks. Monitors procedures related to availability and completion of tasks and follows up on issues related to service and operations.
  • Exhibits excellent telephone etiquette and listening skills.
  • Ensures accurate and timely dispatch of transport requests and ensures maximum staff productivity.
  • Maintains a safe, healthy, orderly and pleasant work environment for staff; ensures dispatch equipment is safe and in good, clean working condition; provides and maintains adequate levels of supplies and equipment.
  • Understands and applies knowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection control practices and proper body mechanics.
  • Understands and is able to determine, explain and develop dispatcher logic and transporter activities. Acts as a transporter when necessary.
  • Ensures proper operation of company hardware, software programs, page and phone-handling systems and is able to troubleshoot and work with information systems.
  • Ensures requests have been completed in an efficient and timely manner according to current departmental standards, priorities and patient appointments.
  • Functions as a liaison between Patient Transportation and other departments.
  • Develops and promotes positive, effective customer service relations with patients, patient family members, visitors and staff.
  • Resolves problems related to patient, visitor, staff or employee complaints. Resolves problems associated with patient transport services and recommends and participates in the solution of ongoing problems or trends.
  • Acts as a positive role model. Possesses integrity, focus, commitment, flexibility, diplomacy and team spirit. Is reliable and trustworthy.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Language Skills:
    • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interact, motivate and communicate with a wide range of staff and hospital personnel in a professional manner. Guest relations skills must be strong, genuine and noticeable. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other associates of the facility.
  • Computer-Based Skills
    • Basic computer skills utilizing a Windows-based operating system. Ability to troubleshoot system problems related to computer or software systems and initiate internal or external resolution to system issues.
  • Problem-Solving and Reasoning Skills
    • Analytical ability to constantly evaluate task and personnel status. Interpret demand and response times in accordance with patient acuity and personnel availability. Mental ability to provide excellent problem-solving judgment related to response time and performance of associates' coordination of activities related to patient transportation services. Enforcement of policies under emergency or stressful situations

Job Opening Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Dispatcher, transport or hospital experience preferred.


Minimum Pay Rate - Hourly: $16.00
Midpoint Pay Rate - Hourly: $18.15
