Job Opening Summary

Assists the recreational therapist in carrying out various recreational therapy activities for substance abuse/dual diagnosis patients by utilizing group and individual modalities. Works directly with patients in providing a variety of different type of recreational activities, expressive therapy activities, life skills activities and other therapeutic and educational activities that promote a positive recovery. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. Responsible for documentation in accordance with the facility and accreditation standards. Participates in the holiday coverage rotation. Must be able to effective manage patients in a safe and therapeutic manner.
 

Job Opening Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in recreation therapy, activities therapy, expressive therapy, physical/personnel trainer, exercise science, physical education or other related field.
  • Experience providing group and individual recreational, expressive, activities and exercise therapy or activities is required.
  • Certification in related area desired.
  • High school diploma with two years of patient assistance experience required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in working with large groups of people.
  • Experience in behavioral health preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with patient population preferred.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory accreditation standards preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong communications skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and appreciation of the disciplines represented on a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Demonstrate ability to interact collaboratively and effectively within the team paradigm.
  • Basic computer skills required.


Motor Vehicle Operator Designation (Required):
Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "non-frequent driver."

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist preferred.


Minimum Pay Rate - Hourly: $18.82
Midpoint Pay Rate - Hourly: $22.84
